What is RingFlags
The RingFlags App is a mobile App (iOS and Android) that warns drivers when they should prepare to slow or stop when driving on the Nordschleife. It uses sophisticated crowd-sourcing, data modelling and low-latency communications to provide up to date information on the state of the track every 2-5 seconds. RingFlags can warn you about slow traffic ahead, accidents, spillages and any other dangers on the track that you might not be able to see in time to act on.
The App is not a substitute for sensible defensive driving and is offered purely on an as is basis as a supplement to all existing tools and skills you may have!
How much does it cost?
The App is FREE and always will be! Our intention is to get as many people using it as possible - the more drivers who use it, the better it works! In time we may run adverts or support the App with addition paid services alongside the app but the core application will always be free and accessible to everyone.
Please note that the RingFlags Apps requires a 3G (ideally 4G) connection in order to operate correctly. It uses minimal data (about 1MB per lap) - you’ll use less far less data per lap than the equivalent time spend surfing the web or using social media. If you’d prefer not to use your own phone, come and see us to grab one of ours! We have a number of phones and mounts which we can rent out for €5/day with a refundable security deposit.
How do I use it?
The tool is currently undergoing beta testing with local drivers and knowledgeable visitors - please let us know if you’d like to help out. Check back here soon where there will be links to the Apple Store and Google Play Store to download the App.
Is my Data Safe?
Yes, absolutely! You can use RingFlags without providing any user information. There’s no need to log in as your position is tracked and updated using a random ID generated when you install the App (which you can also change). Please see our Privacy Policy for more detailed information.
This sounds great - how can I help?!
We’re looking for people who visit the Ring regularly who can work with the early versions of the app to improve its data and raise any concerns / issues for improvement before we go for a wider release. The App can be installed on iOS or Android.
We’re also looking for people who can help translate the App and this page so we can reach out to as many different people as possible. Let us know if that’s you!
